The gray tiles at the top of the Dashboard display high level information.  Additionally, the tiles act as filters to isolate the display of data in the visualizations and grids and/or contain links to additional detail for the Metric category.  Remember that selecting multiple filters invokes the AND condition (not And/Or condition), meaning that you will see data that is in the range for all selected metrics.
